ANIK KHAN KITES

Self described as “curry chicken meets collard greens”, Bengali-born, Queens-raised rapper Anik Khan is gearing up for a new release. The first we heard from it was ‘Habibi’, and now the Hip-Hop extraordinaire is back with ‘Kites’ a guitar-driven number inflected with sitar, trumpet and laid-back drums. This leaves all attention on Khan’s lyrical musings, which use the kite metaphor to its fullest potential: “I'm holding on by a thread / There's not much of a breeze today / I keep tripping on the clouds”. As with ‘Habibi’ the production is minimal, snappy and supremely chilled, and come with credits from long-time collaborators Jarreau Vandal and Raj Makhija. Keep an eye out for the full project, which is due to be released on 28th April. -HM
